If your car enters water that is too deep to drive through, the safest action is to lower the window and climb to the roof of the vehicle if it is not yet submerged. This approach is critical because vehicles can quickly fill with water, making it difficult to escape. Staying inside the car can increase the risk of drowning, especially if the water level rises rapidly.

By climbing to the roof, you place yourself in a higher, safer position while still being close to your vehicle, which makes it easier for rescuers to locate you. It’s important to keep in mind that once the water begins to filter into the cabin, the pressure difference can make it nearly impossible to open the doors, so exiting before that happens is vital.

The other options would not provide a safe solution: remaining in the car could lead to dangerous situations as the water level rises, attempting to drive through could put you in further danger or cause your vehicle to stall, and signaling for help while still in the vehicle does not address the immediate risk posed by the flooding conditions.
